Advanced Care
Surgical Services
Advanced Cares surgical suite features the state of the art
Sevofluorane
anesthetic system. Sevofluorane is the same kind of anesthetic trusted
and used by
pediatricians
for
human
children. It is in fact, a superior, and more expensive agent than typically used in many animal hospitals. We use it in all cases where general anesthesia is required.
We use only the safest pre-medications for your pet and the one we choose is tailored to your pet’s specific needs. This is one of the of the reasons why we can not provide an exact quote for your pet's spay, neuter, declaw, or any procedure requiring surgery.

Bright clean Surgery Suite.
A presurgical exam is performed on each pet.
Monitoring is the cornerstone of safe anesthesia. All of our patients under anesthesia are monitored with an electrocardiogram (ECG) and pulse oximeter (to measure blood oxygen).
Temperature, heart rate, pulses and respiration are also continuously monitored.
Complete blood work (CBC and chemistry profile) are performed prior to any anesthetic procedure.
Comfort of the patient is paramount to us.
We create a pain management plan specific to the surgical procedure and to your pet’s specific needs. We also ensure your pet does not become chilled and has a comfortable recovery environment.
At Advanced Care Pet Hospital we provide a wide variety
of Surgical Procedures for a wide variety of pets:
• Spaying and Neutering
• Feline Declaw
• Dentistry and Oral Surgery
• Emergency Surgery
• Soft Tissue Surgery
• Basic Ophthalmic Surgery
• Orthopedic Surgery (For certain procedures a Board Certified
Surgeon will be called in to perform the orthopedic surgery )
Neuter (Castration, Orchiectomy)
Neutering is the surgical removal of the testicles. This surgery is performed to reduce sexual instincts and render your pet sterile. Why neuter?
• Prevent testicular cancer
• Older, unneutered male dogs can develop perineal hernias
and perineal tumors.
• Reduced tendency to roam or fight
• Decreased urine odor in male cats
• Decreased tendency for urine marking
Your pet will have a pre-operative exam and complete blood work prior to surgery. Premedications are tailored to your pet’s specific species, size and needs.
Same day surgery is performed. Your pet will be back with you the same night. Recovery is usually uneventful. Aftercare is minimal. Pain management is individualized to your pet.
Spay (Ovariohysterectomy)
The procedure consists of the surgical removal of both the ovaries and the uterus. Why spay?
• There will be no more heat cycles.
• Prevention of pregnancy
• There will be no unwanted puppies and kittens.
• You will avoid having to pay for a costly emergency surgery
once a uterine infection sets in as is common in un-spayed dogs.
• Chance of mammary gland cancer is greatly reduced
if spayed prior to the first heat cycle.
• Ovaries removed, ovarian cancer virtually eliminated.
Complete blood work (CBC and chemistry profile) are performed prior to anesthesia. Same day surgery is performed.
Your pet will be back with you the same night. Recovery is usually uneventful. Aftercare is minimal. Pain management is individualized to your pet.
Feline Declaw (Onchectomy)
The procedure consists of the removal of the claws and associated nail bed.At Advanced Care Pet Hospital we believe in minimizing pain for our patients.
Your cat will have a pre-operative exam and complete blood work prior to surgery. Premedications are tailored to your pet’s specific needs.
Your cat is carefully monitored during the procedure and will have full intubation and general anesthesia.
Paws are bandaged post-operatively and your pet is hospitalized overnight. Bandages are removed the next morning and all medications for the day are administered prior to discharge.
Your cat will be sent home on appropriate medication for pain management.
Recovery is usually quicker in kittens than in adult cats.
A paper based litter is recommended for use during the post-operative period to minimize dust and particles potentially irritating the incision areas. Some cats need to wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent chewing at the paws.
Dentistry and Oral Surgery
A basic oral exam can be completed on most pets when they are awake. In some cases a short-acting anesthetic is required in order to provide a thorough examination. In all cases a full dental cleaning must be done under full anesthesia. Even the best behaved of pets would not tolerate careful inspection and cleaning of all portions of the teeth. In addition, 60% of dental disease occurs below the gum line. Anesthesia is used to allow for the procedure to be skillfully performed while your pet is under no stress.
Please see the Dental Care page for more information.
