MN Puppy Mill Rescue Animals Treated at Advanced Care
On January 29th 2010, Suzie and Bart, two of the dogs rescued in the recent puppy mill raid in Minnesota were brought to Advanced Care for Dentals.
In addition to his dental, Bart also received a neuter. Dr Gerds elected to provide a Foster Home for Suzie until she is more prepared for her spay.

MN Puppy Mill Rescue
Bart & Suzie came through their dental cleanings with flying colors. Bart had to have several teeth removed due to the neglect.
Tri-County Humane received seven of the small breed dogs from the Twin Cities Shelter after the raid. We found it admirable that Tri-County would have these rescue dogs receive dental care before adopting them out.

Suzie
Bart
These two are just adorable. Both are more than a little shaken by their ordeal but both were very receptive to attention.
I had Bart on my lap after his dental. He will make a wonderful
companion.
MN Puppy Mill UPDATE: (2.5.10) Febuary 5th, 2010
After Bart's dental and neuter he returned to Tri County Humane
Society.
Suzie is with us for a month in Foster Care.
She is out and about
and learning what life is like outside "the box."
At the moment Suzie is now learning what it is to be a pet again.
Remember the trainer in the movie Seabiscuit, when he says,
Seabiscuit just has to learn how to be a horse again?
This is Suzie, she's re-learning what it is to be a companion again.
She is learning like a newborn movie star.
"It isn't about the speed, it's about the heart."
Suzie is shy, unsure of herself and generally a feared about activities
and interactions in general. I can say with without reservation she is
responding to foster care in an outstanding manner. She is becoming a
beautiful pet.
Dr. Gerds recalled when she rescued Trevor, and how rewarding it was
to watch a rescue dog regain its Identity, coming out of its "shell".
At the moment, Suzie is cuddled next to me. Here is her picture off the
cell phone:

Tri-County Humane Society Mission Statement
In recognition of the bond between humans and animals, the Tri-County Humane Society (TCHS) exists to practice and promote humane principles, compassionate care, and the prevention of cruelty to animals. This society serves the community (mainly Central MN), both animals and people, primarily by: providing quality care and adoption services for animals in need, offering educational programs to encourage the awareness, understanding and practice of humane principles, and handling questions and complaints regarding animal care and behavior, including alleged cruelty, and neglect cases
Foster Home Program
The Tri-Humane Society is currently looking for good homes to
foster dogs and cats. Most situations involve pregnant and nursing
animals, but sometimes it is for an animal recovering from an upper
respiratory infection (similar to a cold) or an injury. If you are
interested, call the shelter and ask for Rachel. (320-252-0896).
One of our newest programs is for fostering cat/kittens until room
opens up at the shelter. That would involve fostering the cats/kittens
during peak periods (Summer to Fall) and returning them in Jan/Feb when
there are not as many cats up for adoption.
We are also looking for people to be put on a list for situations where
someone is being called to active military duty and can't find anyone
to take care of their pet while they are gone. Foster homes may
be needed in disaster situations when people are without a place to
stay as well.
Call the shelter if you are interested in ANY of these foster
opportunities.
